Facebook and REI-Co-op plan to add to the $2 million they have already invested in King County trails, with funding to complete the Northup Way Connector, which will link the Eastrail and the 520 Trail.
Both companies have previously committed $1 million each to fund work on Eastrail, built on what was previously a rail line, according to a release from King County.
Eastrail and the 520 Trail – already cross, but are separated by a 20-foot vertical grade, according to the release. The funding from Facebook and REI will go toward connecting the two trails to enable easy access from one to the other.
“Trails connect us to what we know and love here in King County, including open space and natural beauty, abundant access to safe and healthy recreation, economic opportunity and more. But we have more to do to expand our trails so even more people can benefit,” Claudia Balducci, King County Council chair, was quoted as saying in the release. “I’m so happy to be able to provide the remaining funding to complete this critical Eastrail connection faster than we imagined possible.”
