King County Council member Reagan Dunn wants to put county residents "first in line" to receive a future COVID-19 vaccine, according to a county press release.
Dunn, vice chair of the council, proposed a budget amendment that would set aside $5 million in money from the federal Cares Act for the Seattle-King County Department of Public health and local health care providers to vaccinate people as quickly as possible. It would also put private health care systems in the county in a position to help with the process too.
"We know that inventing a vaccine is only half the challenge," Dunn said in a release on the county's website, "The other half is manufacturing and distributing it."
Dunn said they want to make sure the county has an "aggressive plan" to get a vaccine to anyone who wants one.
The proposal comes on the very day news of a promising vaccine in the near future came to light.
A vote on the fifth COVID Supplemental Budget is expected later this week.
