King County Council member Joe Dermott has assisted in ensuring the newly passed $12.59 billion budget includes funding for accessible and affordable housing, an enhanced communal space, public transportation, and support for seniors.

“Public investment will be key to helping our communities through these challenging times,” McDermott said in a post on the King County government website. “And while the county’s revenue due to the economic crisis brought on by the pandemic has been hit hard, I’m very happy that we’re able to make key investments around District 8 to fight for a just, equitable and thriving King County in the years ahead.”

The new two year budget will provide $1 million for the White Center Community HUB Project which gives working families access to affordable housing and essential services, and $1.5 million for the Wajadir project in Tukwila which makes homeownership possible for the Somali community.

The budget will also allocate $2 million for the Dockton Park rehabilitation construction project in Vashon Island, $1.2 million for the West Seattle Mobility Transit Hub, and $230,000 for the West Seattle and Vashon Senior Centers.
