Bothell Washington issued the following announcement on Feb. 17.

Bothell, WA – Washington state Governor Jay Inslee has appointed Aetna’s former Pacific Northwest Market President, Norman Seabrooks, to Cascadia College’s Board of Trustees.

Seabrooks joined Aetna in 1973 where he went on to serve in various sales and leadership positions during his 47-year career. He had P&L responsibility for the Pacific Northwest, a region covering 13 states, $5B of revenue/claim payments and over 1M members. He retired in June 2020 as the only African American Market President in a 300,000-employee Fortune 500 company.

“I was impressed with Trustee Seabrooks’ commitment to serving our community, his life-long dedication to education, and his ability to see how important opportunity was to students in need. He brings a wealth of knowledge about community well-being to Cascadia,” said Dr. Eric Murray, President of Cascadia College.

Seabrooks currently serves on the Board of the University of Washington Graduate Program in Health Services Administration. He has previously served on the board of the Washington Athletic Club, and the Washington Vaccine Association.

Seabrooks was born and raised in Florida. He became the first African American to earn an athletic scholarship to become the first African American scholar-athlete in the history of the Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina. He graduated on the Dean’s list with a bachelor’s degree in History. In 1994, Norm was inducted into The Citadel Athletic Hall of Fame.
