Tires, stormwater, and salmon don’t mix

Each year, returning adult Coho Salmon in Puget Sound urban streams have been rapidly dying. Why? Research shows that it is because of a toxic

chemical, 6PPD-Quinone, created from tire debris. The U.S. Tire Manufactures Association (USTMA) has done many efforts, such as researching new

products, to keep our waters clean and restore our salmon population.

What you can do to be a part of the solution:

-Install a green roof

-Disconnect your downspout

-Install a rain garden or native landscaping bed on your property

-Keep your tires inflated and change to new tires when they’re worn down

-Wash your car on the lawn or go to a commercial car wash

-Walk, ride a bike, bus, and telecommute when possible
